Art at Fairchild Gardens

Dale Chihuly‘s colorful glass sculptures are fun wherever you see them, but particularly in an outdoor setting. In 2006, Lilli, David, Claire and I visited Fairchild Tropical Gardens in Miami, where there was a special exhibition of his works. In some places the contrast between these sophisticated creations and their placement in the garden was startling; elsewhere they fit right in.

In March 2012 Leslie and I returned to Fairchild and saw a quite different installation–huge fiberglass and steel sculptures by Will Ryman. The enormous flowers seemed to overpower the landscape, but the loose petals provided a place to perch and view the natural scenes.
