Perez Art Museum Miami

A wonderful side-benefit to overnights with Margot and Nina in Coral Gables is getting to visit exciting places in Miami. The lovely Perez Art Museum opened in December 2013. I first saw it from the BigBus Tour I took of the city on March 10. I returned the next day for an inside view. I spent most of my time on an exhibit of works by Chinese artist Ai Weiwei. I had read about his political conflicts with the authorities in Beijing, but now I understand why his work is so compelling and controversial. His art advocates for freedom from repression and challenges viewers to rethink their cultural values. Here are some captioned photos I took. Some of the works I saw have now been shipped to a larger exhibition of his work at the Martin-Gropius-Bau Museum in Berlin, on view through July 7. This New York Times article describes of the Berlin exhibit fully.
