New Year’s Greetings
Our family greeted 2021 with gratitude for good health and with high hopes for getting vaccinations soon. We hope that you, too, have escaped COVID and found at least a few silver linings. This message highlights a few that we found.
After February fun together, we had all hunkered down in March and found “corona comforts” in golf, music, books, and nature. David’s family came up from Coral Gables in July for a careful weeklong visit. So good to see them in person.
Over the summer I read many books and wrote several posts about how very much Black lives matter. It was a time to ponder, to learn, to play music by Black composers, and to pray for redemption. Our grandkids found interesting and wholesome activities, as reported in weekly family Zoom conferences.
Just before Thanksgiving, Lilli and Violet relocated their online activities to Florida and stayed with us until January 6. In December we celebrated Margot and Nina’s 7th birthdays in Coral Gables, then welcomed the Eidson family, who had driven all the way from Austin. They stayed for four weeks in a rented condo nearby, where they could work and attend school remotely.
After school the cousins loved board games, pickle ball and swimming. All of us enjoyed cooking and eating together and taking advantage of nearby parks and gardens. Sean and Shelby took their boys deep sea fishing and caught fish that they gave David to smoke. It was delicious!
That top photo shows us with our daughters’ families on Christmas Day. A few days later David’s family came for a day of horseback riding and outdoor activities. Two days later his family hosted us for a bountiful lunch on the patio of their new house. We loved walking around in their new Coral Gables neighborhood. A normal holiday? No. Memorable? Yes! We pray that 2021 will be filled with love and peace and that we can all come together again to preserve our precious democracy.
