Steve celebrates 70
While we visited friends in Williamsburg VA, August 22 rolled around and Steve was ready to celebrate his 70th birthday. As dessert was served at the Fat Canary, a really great restaurant, the hostess brought an envelope that had been delivered earlier in the day. It was a gift certificate for the meal and a bound volume of “70 Years in 70 Haikus” that our clever children had put together for their father. Such a surprise! He couldn’t have been more pleased. Some of the references may be obscure to non-family members, but our memories came flooding back to the beat of 5 – 7 – 5 syllables per line. Here’s the poem.
