Florida Highlights
This year I’ve seen more of Florida’s gardens and nature preserves than ever before. Our Quail Ridge Garden Club took field trips to Bonnet House, where the gardens stretch from the Bay to the Ocean on 35 acres in the heart of Ft. Lauderdale, and to Mounts Botanical Gardens in West Palm Beach, where we learned to identify native plants and care for them.
When the Stitts visited, Claire and I took a guided tour of Wakodahatchee Wetlands, where we saw Great Blue Herons feeding their young, Anhingas drying their wings in the sun, and cormorants consenting to being petted. Claire and I also took a cruise down the Intracoastal Waterway from Delray Beach to Boca Raton and back through 6 drawbridge openings. Plenty of plants and birds, but also stunning houses.
On Easter Sunday we joined Leslie and David for a walk through Fairchild Tropical Botanical Gardens in Coral Gables. Special treats were the art exhibits and the Butterfly House and being with my favorite son and daughter-in-law.
Another wonderful place for natural phenomena is the beach, especially at sunrise and sunset. We’ve been to two parties this year to celebrate moon risings over the Atlantic Ocean. My best pictures are above, but how about this moonrise video shot in New Zealand?
