Playing for Fun and Funds
This year I’ve had several opportunities to play in public; the first was Robert Burns’ Birthday celebration in Beaufort SC. On February 8, I played Chopin’s Mazurka, Opus 7, No. 1 in an afternoon concert called “Sounds of Promise” in Boca Raton. It was a fundraiser for Family Promise, a non-profit I joined last year that helps homeless people get back on track. Last Friday I played Gershwin’s I Got Rhythm on a talent show at First Presbyterian Church of Delray Beach that raised money for scholarships for graduating seniors. Next week I will accompany a fashion show mounted by my Garden Club here at Quail Ridge in support of regional horticultural activities. It’s fun to explore old and new pieces and sharpen my performance skills. I am also enjoying coaching some of the men in the Quail Ridge Chorus in preparation for our April 9 Concert.
