Washington Chorus
Short programs keep an audience on the edge of their seats. On Wednesday, November 7, members of The Washington Chorus, including the Junior Washington Chorus ( JWC: select high school students), kept us riveted at the Finnish Embassy. They were directed by Associate Conductor John Bohl and accompanied by Joshua Stafford:
Ev’ry Time I Feel the Spirit arr. William Dawson
Finlandia by Jean Sibelius, arr by John Bohl
A Light Exists in Spring by Sophia Hill, JWC member, conducted by Esther Ullberg, another JWC member
Make Our Garden Grow from Candide by Leonard Bernstein, arr. Robert Page
Feelin’ the Spirit was contagious, the new arrangement of Finlandia delighted the Finns; the setting of Emily Dickinson’s poem by young Sophia was simply beautiful, and the number from Candide a perfect come-on for The Chorus’ next concert, The Essential Bernstein at the Kennedy Center, Sunday, Nov 18.
