Highland Highlights

Besides my daily practice in the Highland Cathedral, I have found many lovely places to walk here in the Highlands and many fun people to get to know. As we prepare to leave Dornoch tomorrow to visit friends in Perthshire, I am recalling all the things we’ve done in the last 5-1/2 weeks, so that the memories will be vivd. Here are the Highlights.

One of my favorite trails is the Forest Walk in Dornoch, which I hiked first with Allene on July 22, again with Steve a week later, and on August 19 with Patsy Waddell from Cupar, Scotland. I met Patsy in Florida last May; she is the sister-in-law of my friend Wendy Jones. On the Forest Walk, we encountered history markers, a fairy town, flowers, and the Royal Dornoch Golf Course.

Three more big events were the visit of our daughter Shelby’s family, the Cooleys’ annual cocktail party, August 11, which I decided this year to revel in, rather than photograph, and Steve’s birthday, August 22. The latter we kept low-key this year; a steak dinner with the McAuleys turned out to be just the right size party after all these other outings and celebrations. Here are Ian and Marion presenting Steve with a map of Scotland’s whiskies.
