50th Bible School

Why do I keep volunteering for Bible Schools? Maybe it’s the cookies! My friend Nori Gelfond makes these tasty, beautiful cookies for all who complete a week of Vacation Bible School at First Presbyterian Church, Delray Beach FL. This week the Rocky Railway took us on a journey where we found hope, strength, service, faith, and love. It was my first time back since 2018, when the theme was Deep Sea Discovery and the cookie was a ship.

Five years ago I wrote about forty-eight Bible Schools I remembered since my first in Borger TX in the 1950s. With these last two in Florida, I’m now up to 50–guess I’m hooked! Grace Hood was again the experienced RR Conductor; Birgit Fioravante led the singing. Donna Van Horn and I  showed and discussed short videos of kids who had found that believing the Bible helped them surmount challenges. One challenge I had this week was finding my way in:  all but one door of the church was locked to keep out would-be assailants, a sad sign of the times we live in. With faith and caution, we all survived and the kids obviously loved singing, imagining, learning, playing together and making new friends.

Here are photos from Deep Sea Discovery in 2018. Can you spot a few people who took part in both? Being around children is such a joy! Cookies seal the charm!

Here’s a video of the song I liked best. Lots more about Rocky Railway VBS on YouTube!
